This course is designed to give students a deeper understanding of the history of education in America. The course will focus on both formal and informal educational institutions, as well as their impact on society. Students will learn about the evolution of education from Colonial times to the present day and explore how education has changed over time. They will also analyze the role that different groups have played in shaping educational policy and practices, such as parents, teachers, administrators, politicians, etc. Students will evaluate how these groups influence current policies regarding educational reform and determine if there are any common threads throughout history that have led us to where we are today.
In this course, you will study the history of American education and how it has affected education today. Students will learn about key points in American education, including influential thinkers, institutions and reform movements. This is a 6 credit hour course and is allotted 6 weeks of time.
