What Will You Learn?
Grief Group Counseling is a course that focuses on the use of group counseling as a way to support individuals who are grieving the loss of a loved one. It is designed to provide students with an understanding of the principles and theories of group counseling and how they can be applied in the context of grief counseling.
Course Overview: This course is part of the Ethereal Master Degree Program in Grief Therapy at the School of Grief Education at AITU.
It is a 6-hour semester course that must be completed within 6 weeks.
The aim of this course is to provide students with an overview of major ethical issues in counseling and how to handle a variety of situations in practice, including self-awareness, multicultural sensitivity, legal issues, confidentiality, boundaries, multiple relationships, issues surrounding consultation and supervision, and a selection of ethical issues related to working with couples, families, groups, and communities.
Course Objectives:
Gain an understanding of major ethical issues in counseling;
Be self-aware and mindful of one’s own biases as a counselor;
Understand major ethical concerns such as confidentiality, boundaries, multiple relationships, legal concerns, etc.;
Learn about ethical concerns in supervision and consultation;
Address some ethical concerns specific to work with couples, families, groups, and communities;
Gain a working understanding of how to handle ethically challenging issues in counseling.
