This course is designed to provide you with a deeper understanding of Islamic economics and its role in the global economy. We will cover topics like Islamic economic theory, Islamic economic history, and specific issues such as interest-based lending and consumption. You will also engage in applied research projects that demonstrate how Islamic economics can be used to address contemporary problems in both developing and developed countries.
This course will focus on the key concepts and ideas within the field of Islamic economics and how they relate to contemporary economic theory and practice. By beginning with an introduction to two major financial systems, students will have a background against which they may develop a comparative understanding of the Islamic economic system. This course is a good starting point for those wishing to pursue further studies leading to a career in Islamic economics, finance, or banking. The module will provide students with an adequate understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of the Islamic system and how it proposes to deal with contemporary issues.
