Academic Freedom

AITU is highly committed to the implementation of academic freedom because it is believed to enhance the educational process. As such, faculty members and staff as well as students have the right to express their points of view on related fields. In addition, faculty members have the freedom to implement the preferred instructional methods and formulate tests and assignments which they consider appropriate for their courses. Additionally, students are encouraged to communicate their thoughts with their instructors and university administration.

Cheating or plagiarism is not tolerated and can subject the student to an “F” grade. This may include use of resources or persons during examinations other than those defined by the course instructor, or copying from references without giving credit to the source.

Disruptive behavior in class which negatively impacts the educational process is not acceptable and can result in removal from the course. This may include unnecessary interference during discussions (on campus or virtual) or behavior that is deemed threatening or intimidating to others.

Students may file a grievance appeal about any concern they have related to university staff, course instructor, course content or even their grade. According to the intensity and urgency of the grievance, the office of the Dean of Students will schedule an online or on-campus appointment to meet with the student and discuss the issue, and in good faith find an appropriate solution for it.
